Supply drive being held to celebrate diaper bank millionth milestone

Western North Carolina non-profit, Babies Need Bottoms, celebrates a milestone by giving back even more.

The organization recently hit the 1 million diaper distribution mark and is celebrating by announcing a two-week diaper drive to help local families.

Diaper need has risen significantly due to the increased cost of goods, with the average local cost per diaper rising from $0.34 to $0.48 in the last two years. Meeting basic needs is more expensive and can be nearly impossible for families with low or limited incomes.

Babies Need Bottoms is working to help families with the daily needs of diapers, wipes, rash cream and other health and hygiene essentials – and they need community support to provide more diapers to more families.

In response to this need, Asheville Outlets and Mission Health already committed to hosting diaper drives in the month of March. Mission Health employees donated over 10,000 diapers – the largest community-sponsored diaper drive in WNC to date.

Asheville Outlets is teaming up with Babies Need Bottoms to host a diaper supplies drive for community members to participate. Collection Bins will be located in the Asheville Outlets Food Court from March 17-31. Baby wipes, rash cream and diapers in size Preemie, size 5, and 4T-5T Pull-ups are the greatest need right now.

“Many people are shocked to learn public assistance programs like SNAP (food stamps) and WIC cannot be used to purchase diapers and no government assistance program provides them in NC” said Alicia Heacock, Co-Executive Director for Babies Need Bottoms. Diaper banks, like Babies Need Bottoms, are a grassroots response to help local families meet this basic need for our youngest community members.

"Babies need diapers to be clean, dry and healthy. And parents need diapers so they can send their children to childcare and work. Diapers are a necessity for families. Donating diapers is a powerful way to show up for our neighbors and community. " shared Meagan Lyon Leimena, Co-Executive Director for Babies Need Bottoms.
