Stir things up this summer and book a local cooking class to try your skills at being a Lowcountry chef.

Undiscovered Charleston | 40 Archdale St.| For the full Holy City experience, this class will take you on a walking tour and educate you on Charleston before teaching a three-course cooking class. This class is known for its Lowcountry vibe.

News Notes

Plan Ahead

The Fourth of July is right around the corner and Patriots Point is offering the ultimate fireworks view point. Tickets are on sale now to watch fireworks from the flight deck of the USS Yorktown for $25. (The Post and Courier)

Festival

On Saturday, July 1 Charleston Carifest will kick off with a parade at 4 p.m. from King Street to Brittlebank Park. The festival aims to shine a spotlight on Bahamian culture, music, and traditions. Events will be held all weekend to celebrate. (Charleston City Paper)

Closing

Edmund’s Oast Exchange will be shutting its doors at the end of summer. The retail store and bar are closing but they hope to use it in the future for other Edmund’s Oast plans. On Saturday, August 12 there will be a wind down party with live music, food trucks, and wines on sale. (Holy City Sinner)

Travel

Avelo airlines has released a new non-stop flight from Charleston International Airport to Wilmington Airport. The flight is available on Mondays and Fridays and can be booked now for under $100. (Charleston Business Journal)

Edu

The new Malcolm C. Hursey Montessori school may have to delay its opening due to weather conditions. The North Charleston school is expected to be completed by August and the school district will decide whether or not to delay the opening by Monday, July 10. (WCSC)

Environment

The Preservation Society has partnered with Preservation Design Partnership, LLC. to work on creating Climate Resilience Guidelines for Historic Properties. This project is aimed at providing local residents with resources for rising sea levels.

State

Clemson University is creating the first College of Veterinary Medicine in South Carolina, slated to open in 2026. This project comes after a great need for Veterinarians in South Carolina — especially in Charleston. (WCSC)

Summer of Service

The City of Charleston is teaming up with Youth Volunteer Corps to offer a Summer of Service.

Events will run for four weeks between June, July, and August.

The program includes leadership and event days to help coach children in our area to be community leaders.

Leadership days | 7th and 8th graders
Event days | All Youth Volunteer Corps members

Let’s talk logistics. Most of the events are at CE Williams North Campus, 1776 William Kennerty Dr. However, some events will be off-site for the volunteer opportunity. It is suggested to pack a lunch and refillable water bottle for the day. A light snack will be provided at events.

If you know of youth looking to participate, they should fill out a parent wavier with their family.

Alright y’all, I hope I was not the only person who noticed this.

When I was at the beach this past weekend with my friends, we discovered that the sand was covered in way more shells than normal. Our hypothesis was the storms from last week stirred everything up and led to them being pushed onto shore. Does anybody know the answer or have another hypothesis? Let me know.
