On May 18, 1995...A large outbreak of supercell thunderstorms strikes
Middle Tennessee. There are 15 confirmed tornadoes across the mid state, including an F4 which tears a 29 mile path across Lawrence and Giles Counties, killing 3, and injuring 32. Another massive F3 tornado carves a 1/2 mile wide swath across Cumberland County, ending on the south side of Crossville. A swath of hail damage extends from near Linden to Shelbyville, causing extensive damage to homes and vehicles. Hail as large as 3 inches in diameter is reported. Another hailstorm in De Kalb County produces an estimated $1.5 million in damage. This is the 6th largest tornado outbreak in mid state history. |
