News Notes

Open

The city's second double-cross diamond intersection is now open in the New Circle and Leestown roads corridor. Here's what a double-cross diamond intersection looks like. (Lexington Herald-Leader)

Civic

Yesterday, Mayor Gorton announced the launch of a new public safety initiative, the Cardiac Crusade. The initiative will verify and map Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across Lexington in a database made visible to the public and 911 dispatchers. An official kickoff event will take place Friday, Oct. 16 to recruit volunteers.

Eat

Son of a Burger closed over the weekend, announcing on social media that Wing Kyng will take over its spot in mid-October. Ume Craft Ramen also recently closed, but owner Andy Chi plans to open Cha & Chi — a restaurant with Korean fried chicken and boba tea — later this fall. (Lexington Herlad-Leader)

Health

Free shots. That's what the Lexington Health Department is offering at various pop-ups this fall — free flu shots, that is. Two of the pop-up clinics will take place tomorrow, Oct. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 2 to 6 p.m. Reserve your time slot.

Gallery

Keeneland shared a photo dump of opening weekend for its 2026 Fall Race Meet, and it's extensive. Scroll through the account's past few Instagram posts to get up to speed on winners, standout moments, and more before grabbing tickets to the upcoming festivities.

Award

Step aside, Leslie Knope. Lexington Parks & Recreation just took home the National Gold Medal Award in Class II at the National Recreation and Park Association Conference. The award "is the highest honor a Parks & Recreation agency can receive."

Travel Tuesday

Fall road trip idea: Visit all nine of these bookstores or coffee shops on the Bluegrass Cozy Crawl passport.

Listen

Did you hear that? Most hearing aids have one processor. These bad boys have two, making speech clearer and crisper by processing speech and noise separately. No wonder 670,000+ customers love them. Try them with a 45-day, no-risk trial.*

Finance

So, you’re a high-income business owner, and you want to save more for retirement while reducing your taxable income. What are your options? A cash balance plan, paired with your existing 401(k), could help you make much larger tax-deductible contributions. Here’s how it works.*

OBC Kitchen's new location in The Commons opens today.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at 3 p.m., and according to social media comments, the Landstowne location closed on Friday, Oct. 2, so you'll have to head to the new space for some bacon in a glass.

Stay tuned for future coverage on The Commons development — and a possible Foodie Friday piece on the new OBC location.

The Wrap

I'm intrigued by OBC Kitchen's "He Who Must Not Be Named" seasonal cocktail. It features local Kentucky gin and blackberry-thyme jam — plus a blackberry-thyme jam garnish. I'd get it just for the garnish, honestly.
