Once a year, Explore Asheville and the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority host an annual meeting, bringing together hundreds of local business leaders and community members to provide an update on our city’s travel and hospitality industry.

This year, national tourism economist Adam Sacks debuted findings from the 2025 Economic Impact of Visitors to Asheville and Buncombe County report.

Here's a glance at key stats:
  • $2.6 billion | The total generated through visitor spending
  • One in seven | The number of Buncombe County jobs supported by travel and hospitality
  • $900 million+ | Local tourism-generated income last year
  • $225 million | The amount generated in state and local taxes by travel and hospitality
  • $2,145 | Tax savings per Buncombe County household, thanks to visitor spending
All overnight visitors in Buncombe County pay a 6% occupancy tax, which helps invite more visitors through capital investments and destination promotion. This year, $11.2 million of these dollars were invested in local nonprofit and municipal projects through the Legacy Investment from Tourism (LIFT) Fund.

Eat

The Majestic and Spicewalla are teaming up for the collab we didn’t know we’d been waiting for: a custom five spice mix. The classic Chinese spice blend of star anise, clove, cinnamon, fennel seeds + Sichuan peppercorn is perfect for savory cooking, but pro tip, it’s also great for baking.
